Looking for School Counselor Professional Development? Check out Twitter!

If you are a practicing school counselor or counseling student, there is a great free professional development opportunity that you can tap into each month known as a Twitter Chat.  Never used Twitter, no worries...if I can do it, so can you. In fact, here is a quick tutorial from school counselor and #SCCHAT founder Danielle Schultz on how to participate in a chat.

What is a Professional Development Twitter Chat?

My first experience with a chat on Twitter occurred in 2011 when Dr. Erin Mason and Danielle Schultz hosted the first school counselor chat called #SCCHAT.  Since that time, Twitter has exploded with many amazing chats that many dedicated school counselors volunteer to host each month.  Here is a list of the growing number of school counselor chats that have evolved since 2011:

#ESCCHAT-Elementary School Counselor Chat-2nd and 4th Thursday @ 8PM EST
#MSCCHAT-Middle School Counselor Chat-3rd Wednesday @ 8:30 PM EST
#HSCCHAT-High School Counselor Chat-1st Tuesday @ 8:00 PM EST
#SCCHAT-School Counselor Chat-1st Wednesday @ 8:30 PM EST

This year, I have had the pleasure of hosting two chats, #HSCCHAT and #SCCHAT. In December, I will host the #HSCCHAT on mental health and the #SCCHAT on mental health literacy in April!
